1. Adopt a Pet!
Don’t have a pet yet? Need another? Want to rescue someone today? Today’s the perfect opportunity to adopt a rescue pet from a local shelter. According to The Humane Society of the United States, between 6-8 million cats and dogs enter shelters each year, but only about half are adopted. “Of the 3 million cats and dogs euthanized in shelters each year, approximately 2.4 million (80%) are healthy and treatable and could have been adopted into new homes,” reports the Human Society. These figures are staggering and extremely upsetting. If you could open your home to an animal in need, please don’t hesitate.
2. Share Pet Photos
National Pet Day is an excellent excuse for sharing the cutest photos of your furry friend on social media. Hit up Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and don’t forget to use the hashtags #NationalPetDay, #PetPonderosa and #PNWpets!

3. Take a Walk
One of the healthiest, and perhaps most obvious ways to celebrate National Pet Day is by taking your dog (or cat, if he lets you!) on a beautiful jaunt around the neighborhood, to the park, or down to the pet store for a new treat! Pro Tip: Walk to the nearest Starbucks and order a FREE ‘Puppuccino’ from their secret menu. Your pup will love this sweet special occasion treat.
